For months, Tim and I have prayed for a historic home on land with a large workshop within 30 minutes driving distance from our daughter’s school… for a steal of a price. And in this market… we knew we were basically asking for the impossible…
But GOD.
We started our search slowly, visiting adorable historic gems that needed A TON of work, but we were having fun daydreaming and fantasizing. We both were waiting on God’s timing because He knew exactly what our hearts were yearning for. We didn’t want to rush the process. We didn’t want to force things to happen. We chose to be still.
One August night around 6pm, an adorable 1915 craftsman on almost 2 acres with an 1,800 square foot shop (only 25 minutes from our daughter’s school) popped up on my MLS search, and on a whim, I asked Tim if he wanted to see it. His response, ”Why not?” So, we loaded up and drove out there as fast as we could, and the minute we stepped onto the property, we were in love. We knew that God had prepared it just for us.
We couldn’t believe that it was over 100 years old – it had been cared for and updated throughout the years. The foundation was in relatively good shape considering it’s age. The electrical wasn’t ancient. Despite there being a major plumbing leak under the house, most of the plumbing was relatively new. But we knew it was going to be WORK to restore it to it’s former glory. As it stands today, it current has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. After our renovation, it will be 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths with almost 800 square feet added!
The house was listed as a craftsman, but a lot of those characteristics had been covered up over the years with texture, siding, paint, vinyl – all the things that went in and out of trends throughout the decades. Our hope is to bring back the wood floors, add decorative trim features and install built-ins characteristic of the craftsman style, bring in shaker cabinetry, tear down some walls to create an open concept, update the bathrooms, and do what we can to pay homage to this gorgeous gem.
Due to the extent of the work needed, we are partnering with a local general contractor who will be doing a lot of the heavy lifting – the electrical, plumbing, HVAC, foundation, drywall, adding an addition, and workshop updates. We will be focusing on the finish out – the flooring, cabinetry, trim work, painting, and all the design touches to make it feel like home.
It’s going to be a journey, but it has been our DREAM. We are nothing but grateful to take on this project and call this house our forever home!
Hope you’ll join us for the ride!
Sincerely,
Tim & Heather
