Having all the right tools is a great way to start your DIY journey! So, what better way to start the holiday season that by spoiling your DIY-er with all the good stuff! Don’t know which one to purchase? Each heading  in bold has an associated link to the exact gift idea we would suggest!

Through our years of building and renovation, here are some foundational pieces to have to get your next project going! Happy shopping!

#10: Pencils

Whether your sketching, mapping out your cut list, or recording measurements, pencils are an often overlooked, but IMPORTANT tool for DIY! We prefer inexpensive pencils, that are mechanical. So, you don’t have to worry about finding a pencil sharpener while you’re in the midst of building or crafting. Also, make sure to stock up – they can be easily misplaced when you’re in the thick of creating something awesome!

#9: Tape Measure

Measurements are a necessary evil to any DIY project to ensure furniture fits, things are centered, or custom cabinetry fits your empty niches. A trusty measuring tape is a godsend and an absolutely necessity! We love a good auto-lock measuring tape with extended measurements down to the 16ths! This makes for easy and accurate measuring, especially when you’re working solo in large spaces!

#8: Orbital Sander

If you’re building cabinetry, refinishing an old piece of furniture, or patching nail holes for that sketch of board and batten you just added to your entryway, a GOOD sander is essential to making your project polish and finished. This sander is our absolute favorite! It’s durable,  portable, and is easy to handle! In our 5 years, we had one die once, and we bought the same exact make and model!

#7: Cordless Drill/Driver

This is the FOUNDATIONAL piece of any DIY-ers tool kit. We happen to be devoted to Ryobi – their tools are durable, dependable, and enduring! We use our drill almost every, single day for hours at a time, and it has lasted us YEARS. To any project, a drill is necessary! So make sure to invest in a good one!

#6: Kreg Pocket Hole Jig

If you haven’t heard the term “pocket hole” yet, just wait until you get knee deep into DIY-ing! Pocket holes help to secure two pieces of wood or plywood together, and you see this method used in cabinetry and furniture making! Kreg came out with a product that makes pocket holes a cinch, and this particular product even helps to keep our pieces clamped for easy pocket hole drilling!
