Our sweet house was missing something vitally important to today’s modern family – A pantry! We knew this was going to be a priority for us as we drafted the renovation plans. In its original state, the room that currently houses our pantry was a bright and sunny breakfast nook, and while I was sad to say goodbye to this space, I knew that having a powder bath and a pantry were going to be 100% worth it!

So, the demo began, and we removed the lovely laminate floors, shrunk the window, and took down the ceilings. Thankfully, our general contractor and his crew did all the heavy lifting. This was a job beyond our expertise, while I’m sure Tim would have LOVED to take a sledge hammer in there and go to town. LOL!

They divided the space for us into a powder bathroom, a pantry, and a hallway that now leads to our addition, which houses our mudroom, laundry room, and master suite. They also closed up the doorway on the left-hand side of the picture. This doorway leads to a full bathroom, which is now a part of the nursery. This as well as every part of our house is still under renovation too. LOL! There’s always something happening in the House of Kostka!

After framing and electrical went up, we set up a makeshift pantry with some plastic shelves we bought from Walmart until we could FINALLY start on the pantry renovation! BUT before that could even begin, we knew that the floors had to be redone. Remember that awesome linoleum that used to be there?? Well, underneath it was pristine wood floors that we believe are original to the house! We did some sanding, staining, and sealing, and they are back to their original glory, and honestly, the pictures don’t do the color justice! They are stained in Golden Oak by MinWax!

When designing this pantry, I knew that I wanted storage and function, that I wanted closed shelving to house smaller appliances and random kitchen supplies that weren’t used often. I also knew that I wanted a countertop for easy to access things to display, especially for hungry children who constantly ask for snacks! The last must have was space for a fridge or freezer – especially as we grow our little homestead! After scouring Pinterest for DAYS, I finally sketched out the pantry of my dreams – complete with counter space, closed cabinetry, lots of open shelving, space for a freezer, and all.the.room!

When it came to colors, I wanted to step outside my comfort zone. If you’ve been following us for a while, you’ll know that neutrals are my thing. White EVERYTHING! When we moved, Tim and my oldest put their foot down – they wanted a say in the interior design, and they wanted MORE color. (EEEK!) This being our forever home, I agreed. So, we chose a platette of white/gray/green/blue to incorporate into our home, and the first POP of color is coming through in this pantry renovation – Pewter Green by Sherwin Williams, and honestly, I’m LOVING the color.

Our transformation is 50% complete! We have to add the second half of the cabinetry, add the crown molding and base boards, cover the remaining walls in beadboard (which will be painted in Greek Villa by Sherwin Williams), and then organization!!

Stay tuned! More renovation goodness will be coming your way!

Until Next Time,
Heather & Tim
